Wanaka, a couple of mountain ranges and about 80 kilometres north of Queenstown, is cooler and slightly wetter than the rest of the region. The lake provides reflected warmth and light and lessens the risk of frost, giving delicate and vivid wines (New Zealand Winegrowers).
