Wine Radar
How we work
Wine Radar maps the wine producers of one region at a time, with the places to eat and stay around them. This page explains where the information comes from, how we order it and how the site pays for itself.
Where the information comes from
Producers come from Falstaff’s guide to Austrian wine producers, from regional tourism registers and from the producers’ own websites. Restaurants, wine taverns and places to stay come from OpenStreetMap. Area figures come from the Austrian Wine Marketing Board (ÖWM). Each region is collected and checked against these sources before it goes online, and the date of the last update is shown at the bottom of every page.
Ratings belong to the people who give them
Stars and points are Falstaff’s. We show the headline figure and link to the full review at the source. We only show stars from the guide’s recent editions, so an old rating does not stay on a page for years. We do not score wineries ourselves.
How lists are ordered
Producers are ordered by their guide rating, then by their best rated wine and by how many of their wines have been rated. Restaurants and places to stay get our own fit score, which says how well a place suits a wine trip: guide awards, wine taverns and winery-run places, regional cooking and how close the good producers are. It is not a review score.
How the site is paid for
Some links to hotels, tours, books and wine shops are affiliate links: if you book or buy through them, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. Wineries can buy a Plus profile with their own photos, opening hours and a booking button. Neither ever changes what we list, the order of a list or a rating.
Languages
The site is written first in English and German. The other language versions are translated with the help of AI and checked step by step.
