Dundee Hills wineries
According to the Willamette Valley Wineries Association, the first grapes in the Willamette Valley were planted in the Dundee Hills, and it is still the most densely planted area in the valley and in Oregon. On this almost entirely basaltic landmass, about 48 kilometres southwest of Portland and sheltered from the ocean by the Coast Range, about 900 hectares of vines grow in around 100 vineyards. Pinot noir makes up about 70% of the plantings, followed by Chardonnay (about 6%).
