Yamhill-Carlton wineries

North of McMinnville, the foothills of the Coast Range form the Yamhill-Carlton AVA around the small towns of Carlton and Yamhill, with low ridges in a horseshoe around them and the North Yamhill River running through nurseries, fields, orchards and about 1,150 hectares of vineyards. The Coast Range to the west gives a rain shadow, and the coarse ancient marine sediments are among the oldest soils in the valley and drain quickly. Pinot noir makes up about 80% of the plantings.
