Bordeaux is the largest AOC vineyard in France: 94,700 hectares in 2026, spread across the Gironde around the city of Bordeaux, the Garonne, the Dordogne and the Gironde estuary. Most of the wine is red – 83% of the 2024 harvest – and usually a blend: Merlot makes up two thirds of the red vines, followed by Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, while the whites come from Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon.
